Due to the pandemic, many tried-and-true Halloween festivities—trick-or-treating, crowded parties, and indoor haunted houses—are considered a risk for spreading the coronavirus. Looking for ways to celebrate on the safer side this Halloween? We’ve got you and your family covered.
1.Virtual Costume or Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Among the CDC’s list of lower-risk activities, a Zoom costume contest will allow the whole family to dress up and have fun. Invite your friends and neighbors to join. Create categories like “Funniest Costume,” “Best Group Costume,” and “Scariest Costume” to give more than one person a chance to win.
You can also host a virtual pumpkin decorating contest so your kids can carve, paint, and decorate pumpkins alongside friends and family. Select one judge who will decide the winner.
2. Virtual Escape Rooms
Virtual Escape Rooms have grown in popularity since the onset of the pandemic. Why not give it a try during this Halloween? Check out these six virtual escape rooms with your family.
3. Cookie Decorating Class
CocuSocial is hosting two Kids Halloween Cookie Decorating classes online this month. For just $19, your kid can learn how to make cookies from scratch from a chef, decorate them, and—the best part—eat them!
4. Trunk-or-Treat
Hosting a trunk or treat is a great way to celebrate Halloween during Coronavirus while still being able to maintain social distancing. Space out the cars, decorate the trunks. This limits the amount of contact you typically do during Halloween.
5. Porch Decorating Contest
This is a similar idea to the trunk-or-treat, but using porches and lawns instead. Meet up with your group at a designated parking lot and then caravan to the list of houses for judging.
6. Candy Chute
For the ultimate zero-contact experience, make a DIY candy chute. It’s a simple idea: A cardboard tube attached to an inclined handrail. Add a sign at the bottom of the tube showing them where to hold their bags and buckets so the candy can drop right in.
How to Stay Safe on Halloween
While the typical safety tactics still ring true, there are a few new considerations this year. Here are a few tips for how to stay safe on Halloween during COVID:
- Maintain six feet apart
- Wear face masks (even easier on Halloween!)
- Do not accept unwrapped candy or treats
- Keep gatherings small and short
- Set up your small gathering outside
- Suggest those attending the event limit their exposure prior
We hope these fun Halloween activities help your loved ones celebrate safety this year!
