Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving! Consider these tips for safer ways to enjoy the upcoming holiday season.
- Talk about your plans ahead of time. Make your plans in advance, if possible, and tell your kids what is happening, when and why. Kids can adjust to lots of changes, but uncertainty and indecision increases stress and anxiety.
- Go over the rules in advance. Will everyone be tested before coming? Where do we stand on hugging? What are our rules about masks? Avoid awkwardness and conflict by making agreements ahead of time.
- Focus on what you can do. Think about which holiday rituals are most meaningful to you, and then come up with some ideas for how to continue those traditions in a new way.
- Create new traditions. Think of this year as an opportunity to start new traditions and think creatively. Talk with your children and extended friends and family about new ways to make this holiday season special, and how to stay connected, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
